Wholesale wine distributor Palmetto Fine Wines LLC is now serving the Our Palmetto State of South Carolina, including the area's best restaurants, hotels, wine shops and private clubs.
“Our direction is two-fold,” Palmetto Fine Wines owner Chuck Richards said. “Our portfolio represents only the exceptional domestic and
imported wines available and, secondly, we offer unparalleled service and education to support our brands."
Richards is the former owner and operator of Reid’s Fine Foods in Charlotte, North Carolina. He started working there as a bag boy at the age of 15, purchased the company in 1984 and sold it 26 years later in 2010.
While he owned Reid's Fine Foods, Richards was named North Carolina’s Grocer of the Year and served as past president of the North Carolina Food Dealers Association. Reid’s Fine Foods was recognized as one of the top six specialty food retailers in the United States.
Richards has been on the board of directors of the Carolinas Food Industry Council and on the board of directors of the North Carolina Retail Merchants Association. He is a founding member of what is now known as Charlotte Wine & Food Weekend.
Richards and the staff at Palmetto Fine Wines have more than five decades of experience in the wine industry, having worked not only for wholesale operations but also in the fields of retail, hospitality, branding, fundraising and directly with wineries.
“Our focus is going to be in full support of the wines we sell to premier establishments in the low country,” Richards said. “We represent many hard-to-find wineries that produce smaller quantities, offering our customers first access to these stellar wines.”
Wineries represented by Palmetto Fine Wines include Robert Foley Vineyards, Switchback Ridge, Phifer Pavitt, Kimberly Jones Selections, Buoncristiani Winery, Trespass Vineyards, Silver Ghost Cellars, Compton Oregon Wines, Fantesca Estate Wines, Canard-Duchene Champagne, Arcudi Winery.
Special events featuring noted winemakers for their customers in the Greater Charleston region -- including Charleston, Kiawah Island, Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Island, Bluffton, Summerville and Hilton Head -- are planned for Palmetto Fine Wines customers.
